Children and Families Dealing with Incarceration

Often it is hard for families who have a family member in jail or prison to handle finances, keep in touch with their loved one, care for their children and keep the family safe and healthy. Children with parents that are locked up need support, as do caretakers for those children. In addition, when a family member returns from jail or prison, the return home can also be challenging.

The Washington State DSHS provides tools and resources for individuals, families and other service organizations, to support families with a loved one who is incarcerated. The website includes a wide array of general information and tools, training and support materials for individuals and professionals working to overcome the impact of incarceration, and local referrals and links to service agencies in the WA state service area.
