    1. California Medical Facility (CMF)

    The address to CMF is 1600 California Drive, Vacaville, CA 95696.

    • Public Transportation:

      • Vacaville City Coach
        Take #5
        Get off at the corner of Alamo and Mariposa
        Walk down on Mariposa for about a block ­ you will see the facility

      • They have transport vans that have designated stops picking up from various motels and hotels in the Vacaville area, and from the Am Track station to CMF.

          General pick-up hours on Thursdays and Fridays
          start at: 1:00PM and 3:00PM

          General pick-up hours on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays
          start at: 8:00AM and 10:00AM

          Return transportation from the prison on Thursdays and Fridays:
          3:00PM and 7:00PM

          Return transportation from the prison on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays:
          3:00PM only


      • Be sure to call them in advance to let them know that you will be needing transportation services (when and where).

      • If you need more information or need to speak to someone, it is best to call them during open hours (see above).

    2. Central California Women's Facility (CCWF)

    • Public Transportation:

      • Chowchilla Area Transit Express (CATX), (559) 665-8655

      • This county does not have a regular public transit system. CATX is a demand response system or dial-a-ride system, where you have to call them for service.

      • To get service to the prison, call them as soon as possible to let them know when you want to go to the prison to ensure that you get the service for that day. Their bus only goes to the prison ONCE a day (due to visiting hours set by the prison).

          The prison bus schedule is ONCE daily,
          from Thursdays to Sundays, between 12:30PM and 1:00PM.

          For additional hours or service, call (559) 665-8655.

          Fares are $1.50/ adult.

      • The CATX service will only take you to the prison. For service back to your motel, or back into town, Friends Outside provides return service.

      • They have transportation vans that pick up from the Greyhound (Chowchilla) and Am Track (Merced) to CCWF. They only pick up from these two locations and drop off at these two locations.

          Scheduled pick up hours from Greyhound (Chowchilla) are:
          Thursdays and Fridays at 1:30PM;
          Saturdays and Sundays, 8:30AM

          Scheduled pick up hours from the Am Track (Merced) are:
          Thursdays and Fridays at 2:00PM;
          Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30AM

          Return trip hours vary ­ so be sure to check with the driver when he/ she drops you off. However, the last return trip on
          Thursdays and Fridays is at 7:45PM,
          and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30PM.


      • In order to receive transportation services, you need to call ahead of time and be logged in their schedule book. They require a 5-day advance notice, otherwise, they do not guarantee transportation services.

      • They do not charge for their service, but they do accept donations.

      • If you are new to this service, or have other questions, it is best to call them during open hours and speak to someone, rather than leave a message.

    3. San Quentin State Prison (SQSP)

    • Public Transportation:

      • Golden Gate Transit
        Take the #42 or #40 bus to the San Quentin/ San Quentin Village stop, by the 580 freeway.

    • Friends Outside visiting transportation services for SQSP:

          Tuesdays, 10:00AM-2:00PM (admin day);
          Thursdays and Fridays, 10:30AM-6:30PM;
          Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00AM-4:00PM

      • They provide transportation services in the WEEKENDS only ­ none provided on Thursdays and Fridays.

      • The transportation van picks up from the bus stop near the 580 freeway only. They only drop off at this location as well.

      • Call them when you are at the bus stop or close to getting off, and they will meet you there. It is not necessary to call 24 hours in advance.

      • For pick-up, use the phone outside processing ­ this dials automatically to the office.

    4. Valley State Prison for Women (VSPW)

      • They have transportation service that picks up from Greyhound (Chowchilla, Madera, and Merced) and Am Track (Madera and Merced) to VSPW.

      • Pick-up hours and return hours vary, so please call in advance to check their schedule. They usually schedule pick-up and drop-off times according to the number of passengers and destination of passengers.

      • For return pick-up, be sure to check with the driver before you get off the van as pick-up times vary.
